Take a trip to one of Britain's beaches

Whether you fancy taking a long walk with the family, hitting the waves on your surfboard or donning your waterproof coat to visit a historical pier, a trip to one of one of the UK's stunning beaches could be the perfect way to spend a rainy spring afternoon.

And if you need a bit of inspiration about which part of the coast you should travel to for a day out, then you need to look no further than VisitEngland's new campaign which promotes short breaks in some of England's most iconic seaside destinations.

The campaign, which incorporates a range of national online, broadcast and print elements, is designed to boost the popularity of the traditional seaside holiday by highlighting the attractions available at destinations such as Bournemouth, Portsmouth, South Shields and Dorset.

James Berresford, VisitEngland chief executive, explained: "It aims to inspire UK residents to explore our iconic seaside resorts by tapping into the nostalgia of a holiday by the sea - whether it's revisiting a favourite walk on the pier, or trying something new like a surfing lesson."
